My name is Silsila Mahboub, 28 years old, born in the city of Kabul, Afghanistan. I am a an entrepreneur, an economist, an activist, a writer.
What made you leave your homeland?
I am was working as a TV presenter in Afghanistan, and in my society being a young female media face isn’t easy. I was facing problems because of my work, and as a journalist I had to leave my homeland.
Why did you choose Bulgaria?
I came to Bulgaria on a visa. As my uncle was living here he sent me an invitation. When coming to a new country it’s good to have a family member. But unfortunately my uncle passed due to cancer.
What do borders mean to you?
Limiting people from their freedom, putting people in a box and telling them where they can go where they cannot. Which means somebody is deciding for you.
How do you want people who don’t know you to perceive you?
To appreciate my hard work, my knowledge. To not judge me from the outside. To allow me to express myself to share my knowledge, my positive energy to the society. I think for all this it‘s not needed that my entire life and work story is known. Since it‘s very hard when you come to a new country, you are trying to be the perfect one for each society so they don’t judge you. For all this hard work, I would appreciate it if people, even without knowing, can respect each other as humans.
