Social and Humanitarian Support for Refugees and Asylum Seekers

Funding organisation: Choose Love

Project duration: 5 months — from 1 August to 31 December 2026.

Beneficiaries:
The project aims to support at least 300 refugees and asylum seekers in Sofia each month. Priority is given to people facing heightened vulnerability, including women and children, single-parent families, unaccompanied and separated children and young people, older people, people with disabilities or health-related needs, and individuals and families with limited income and support networks.

Overall objective:
The project aims to ensure continuous access to social support, humanitarian assistance and cultural mediation, helping people meet their basic needs and overcome barriers to accessing rights, institutions and services.

Main activities:

  • Social counselling and individual support — needs assessment, information on rights and procedures, and assistance in accessing healthcare, social assistance, education and employment.
  • Humanitarian assistance — provision of food, hygiene products, clothing, footwear and other essential items according to assessed needs and availability.
  • Cultural mediation — support for communication with institutions and service providers and for understanding administrative procedures.
  • Referrals and case follow-up — connecting people with appropriate organisations and specialised services.
  • Monitoring the support provided and gathering feedback to adapt services to people’s needs.

Expected results:

  • Continued access to the Council of Refugee Women in Bulgaria’s essential services.
  • Improved ability to meet basic material needs.
  • Easier access to rights, institutions and services.
  • Reduced vulnerability and social isolation.
  • Support for greater independence, stability and inclusion.

The project is implemented by the Council of Refugee Women in Bulgaria with financial support from Choose Love.

The need has faces, but no nationality. The manner of donation is as important as the act itself. Solidarity only makes sense when emotions are combined with reason and trust is not broken, but preserved and stimulated.
