What brings us joy and comfort, and how can our favourite activities help us cope with challenges?
These questions were explored during a group workshop with unaccompanied refugee children, organised by the Council of Refugee Women in Bulgaria (CRWB) at the Safe Zone in Ovcha Kupel, Sofia, as part of the SAVE – Speak Out Against Violence project.
Through interactive games, working together on a puzzle, and group discussions, participants shared their interests and favourite activities, including football and mobile phone games. Children explored how hobbies and everyday activities can bring positive emotions, confidence, and motivation, while also helping them cope with stress.
Discovering personal interests and strengths is particularly important for unaccompanied refugee children, who often face uncertainty and challenges in a new environment. Favourite activities provide opportunities for self-expression, building positive relationships, and developing emotional resilience.
Sometimes, it is the small everyday joys that give us the strength to overcome life’s biggest challenges.
